Hi, I’m Michael Thurman, and I coordinate crisis prevention and recovery work in Europe and CIS. 

 

My main areas of expertise include:

My work:

 

I provide direct technical and programmatic support to UNDP country offices in the areas of disaster risk reduction and climate risk management, and facilitate support for: capacity for disaster reduction, global risk identification, climate risk management (pdf), early recovery, post-disaster needs assessments, and pre-disaster recovery planning.

I assist country offices with rapid response to crises; develop and implement regional and cross-border initiatives; and lead advocacy for crisis preventin and recovery in the region.

 

 

Some achievements:

 

2009 to present Integrated comprehensive disaster risk reduction into UNDP programmes throughout the region
 

2009 to present Piloted new approaches to climate risk management in Central Asia, Armenia, and Moldova
 

2009 to present Established a disaster risk reduction community of practice in the region
