I'm Stamatios Christopoulos and I support the UNDP country offices in the region with issues related to sustainable development and follow up to Rio+20, including the sustainable energy for all initiative.  


My main areas of expertise:

My work

I support UNDP country offices with activities related to sustainable development and post-Rio+20 processes. I provide technical expertise on issues related to environmental protection in the context of integrated sustainable development. 



Some recent achievements

2012 Authored a scientific paper based on UNDP project work on sustainable solutions and governance


2011 Participated in preparation and writing of the Regional Rio+20 Interagency Report: From transition to transformation


2011 Supported governments in the region to contribute to the Rio+20 Compilation Document, which set the ground for the Rio+20 Outcome Document


I started my career as a researcher at Charles University in Prague. My PhD gave me the opportunity to work in environmental research at the international level through European Commission Directorate General Research Framework Programme projects.

I was also privileged to work as a Visiting Research Fellow and as a Research Scientist in Greece, Denmark, Estonia, and Finland. While in UNDP, apart from serving as a key focal point for the Regional process for Rio+20, I also provided policy advice on sustainable development to the Kingdom of Lesotho.
