Dr. Christoph Hamelmann
I’m Christoph Hamelmann and I manage UNDP’s work on HIV, health and development in Europe and CIS. I am also a Senior Technical Matrix Manager with UNDP Regional Centre in Cairo.
I am a medical doctor, economist, epidemiologist and systems management specialist. I have 25 years experience as senior technical advisor and executive, and have worked for many governments, multilateral organizations, and the private sector as global health advocate and development activist.
Together with my team, we provide country office support and regional advisory services in the following areas:
Legal and regulatory frameworks for a rights- and gender-based approach to national and regional HIV responses; advocacy for and empowerment of key populations at higher risk for HIV infection and their civil society networks; sustainable financing and optimization of investment strategies for national HIV responses in the context of social protection and inclusive societies
Rights-based, multi-sectoral, whole-of-government and whole-of-society approaches to health and development targeting both communicable and non-communicable disease control; addressing social, economic and environmental determinants of health and health equity in the context of national and regional development plans and development programming
‘Greening the Blue’: Innovations in measuring and reducing carbon and toxicological footprints of global health initiatives in the context of UNDP’s large-scale Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria operations; advocacy, policy and strategy development for the environmental safeguarding of global health initiatives; green procurement in the health sector including engagement of suppliers and manufacturers of health commodities and devices
Partnership engagements with governments, civil society, private sector, academia and think-tanks on country, regional and cross-regional level
