OFID-UNDP Cross-regional grants competition

The first Cross-Regional Grants Competition was launched jointly by the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in February 2015.

Through an open call for proposals, the organizations were invited to submit small-scale, innovative projects in two areas:  (1) Affordable Energy and Water solutions and (2) Economic Governance and Employment.

The competition invited non-profit organizations from Europe and Central Asia and Middle East and North Africa to work together and design project ideas addressing development challenges shared by the two regions. The opportunity to bring change in local communities gathered 475 initial project ideas from 31 countries and territories.

After a careful joint evaluation process, three projects were selected for funding. One of the selected projects will design, build, and install a solar-powered wastewater treatment plant in the Occupied Palestinian territory and test its feasibility in Uzbekistan. Another project selected will enhance the field of social entrepreneurship in Albania, Kosovo and Tunisia through business accelerators and a cross-regional transfer of expertise. Somalia will benefit from the Tajikistan and Yemen expertise in irrigation to provide water for farming in remote villages.

Please note that the OFID-UNDP Cross-Regional Grants Competition is now closed and is not accepting further applications.
