Goals for Goals football match

May 17, 2017 commemorated the proud day, 17 years ago, when Istanbul’s Galatasaray won the UEFA Cup Final. It was also be a unique opportunity to celebrate with UNDP the 17 Global Goals, which aim to end poverty, inequality and tackle climate change by 2030.
It was a historic football match.
On one side: the Galatasaray legends, the 1999-2000 season squad that won the UEFA Cup, led by star coach Fatih Terim.
On the other side: a UNDP team of international players including Cameroon’s Francois Omam-biyik Albania’s Erjon Bogdani, and Colombia’s Faryd Mondragon.
Held at Türk Telekom Arena in the historic city of Istanbul, this was the first in a series of matches organized in different countries to raise awareness and funds for improving the lives of thousands of people across the planet. By attending the game, not only the football fans got a unique chance to see Galatasaray Legends and international stars, but they were also able to contribute to the greater good in what was an unforgettable night.
Proceeds from the game were used to fund UNDP programmes to support young Syrian refugees in Turkey.
